Song Of The Summer

Jessica Wilkinson

We are people of tradition. We go to the same place for vacation every summer, we do the same activities, and we eat at the same restaurants. And one of my favorite things to do each summer at the beach is figure out what the Song Of The Summer is. The song you hear the entire week, catching a few seconds of it as you pass golf carts blaring music, over and over, hearing just enough to get it stuck in your head. Some years it's a country song (One Margarita last year), some years it's a rap song (Broccoli a few years ago), and some years it's a dance song (remember The Git Up anyone?).

I couldn’t wait to figure out which song everyone was loving this summer. One day went by, then another, and there was never one strong song that stuck out more than anything else. And then I realized, it wasn’t a Song Of The Summer this year, it was an entire album: Morgan Wallen’s Dangerous: The Double Album. Whether we were walking on the beach, driving around on the golf carts, or sitting on our deck, Morgan Wallen was the soundtrack of the beach.

And then, if the beach soundtrack wasn’t enough, I got on my phone and saw Morgan Wallen’s Instagram video of him, Hardy, and Eric Church playing an acoustic version of Sand In My Boots with Darius Rucker sitting on the couch too. We couldn’t escape him, not that we wanted to. Morgan Wallen has been in my top 3 favorite artists of all time for years now. He truly cannot write or perform a bad song. He’s one of those people that, no matter what, I’m going to love whatever he puts out. Not many people can do that.

Although he probably won’t receive any awards for his album, Wallen’s fan base has grown exponentially in the past 3 years. When he decides to go on tour again, he will definitely be the headliner, and sell out the shows- no doubt about it.

From Livin’ The Dream to Your Bartender, Morgan Wallen has done what no one else has: He’s made the Song Of The Summer an entire Album Of The Summer. And I am here for it.
